Ray Davon Jacobs

Ray Davon Jacobs, A 2x Grammy nominee, Gifted Musician & a beloved family member, was born on January 2nd 1992 in Bellflower, California to LaFelicia Jacobs (Dickson) and Ray Jacobs III.  He was the youngest of three siblings, cherished by his sisters LaSherry McKinney and LaSharae Spencer.  In 2007, 

Ray Jacobs III, bestowed upon him the gift of becoming a big brother to Raymond Jacobs. Ray's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in The Lord of righteousness House of prayer, guided by his Grandmother, Pastor Gloria.  He was Christened at just 3 months old, by hisbeloved grandmother and later baptized at the age of 10, demonstrating his deep faith.

From a very young age, Ray displayed his musical talent. At just 2 years old, he imitated rhythms by tapping sounds on his mother lap, marking the beginning of his extraordinary musical journey.

Ray's mother prophesied his future as a famous musician when he was 7 years old, recognizing his early creative spark as he ingeniously crafted his first musical instrument from a can of paint and clothes hangers. His passion for music was further ignited at the age of 8, when he received a drum machine as a gift from his great Uncle Starks. Recognizing Ray's profound musical inclination, his mother invested in his dreams, purchasing his first drum set for his 10th birthday. Under the guidance of his favorite Great Uncle Thelsey, Ray excelled in both choir and band, showcasing remarkable vocal and instrumental talents. Ray's unique musical talent was showcased when his school challenged him to prove his skills after they called his mother due to his persistent drumming on a desk with pencils. Without hesitation, Ray demonstrated his skills on the drum set leaving no doubt that he was destined for musical greatness.

Ray’s Journey

Ray's educational journey included attending Lindbergh elementary, where he embraced his unique style and participated in sports, playing football and baseball under his father's guidance from ages 4 to 16. While at Lynwood Fireball Middle School, Ray joined the choir and further refined his vocal abilities. As a high school sophomore, he made the bold decision to pursue music over sports, solidifying his commitment to his craft. In 2010, Ray graduated from Lynwood High School. Marking a significant milestone on his educational journey. He continued to nurture his musical talents by joining the jazz band choir at Cypress college and later attending the LA film school. In 2014 Ray briefly worked as a mailman, with an unfortunate encounter with the dog convinced him to pursue his true calling to music. Supported by his loving mother, LaFelicia, Ray was giving a year to chase his dreams. Within that year, he signed with Sony records as a songwriter under the name Marshall Grant and later transition into the artist known as August 08. Ray's collaboration with fellow artists in the group "The Uglies" allowed him to explore his musical versatility resulting in numerous #1 hits, solidifying his status says the musical icon.

Beyond music, Ray had multifaceted life, including interest in baking, golf, baking, bowling, adult coloring books, video games, vintage toy collecting, writing, fashion design, and even plant care. He was a true Renaissance man.  Ray was also a successful businessman, found him blossom entertainment, partnering in a record label "White Panda" with DL, organizing the Bacon and Eggs Tour, hosting events under the banner of People of Colour, and partnering in a hauling company with his cousin Ronald. 

Above all else, Ray held his family in the highest regard. He adored his mother, especially known as Shiny Shoes, often expressing his love with the heartfelt, "I love you Mammmmaaaa"  after each performance. His affection extended equally to his second mother, Aunt Latrese, lovingly referred to as Tressa.  Ray was not only protective but also caring, and he held an unwavering, unconditional love for his siblings. This deep love naturally extended to his beloved niece and nephews, creating a profound bond that enriched their lives.

Ray was a private person but left a lasting impact on the world. He traveled the globe and was remembered as a sympathetic, loving, selfless humanitarian who touched countless lives with his music and kindness.

Ray Davon Jacobs passed away on August 26th 2023.  His music, spirit, and energy will live on forever through albums like "Seasick", "Emotional Cuh", and "Father", as well as hit singles such as Bruises, "Water Sign" featuring Jhene Aiko, and 500 Days.
